Tuesday, September 25th, 2012 by Administrator

Please join us for the 2nd Annual HOPE 5K.! Runners, walkers, and families are  all welcome.  Register HERE.

This year’s race begins at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at our office in Kirkwood, MO.  Based on the number registered so far, we are expecting 600 runners, twice as many participants as last year, which is good news because every cent of your registration fee goes directly to help orphans.  With last year’s proceeds we were able to purchase a well for clean water.  This year we will be helping to build and furnish a school.

Participants will receive a race T-shirt, refreshments after the race, lots of free stuff, prizes, donuts, bagels, and more!  Thanks to our generous sponsors for their support again this year.  We are looking forward to a great event.

Can’t make it to Kirkwood, Oct. 6? No worries! Run wherever you are! https://vimeo.com/48619489

Keane Sponsors Jeremy Maclin Football Camp

Friday, July 13th, 2012 by Administrator

We are proud to help sponsor of the 2nd Annual Jeremy Maclin Football Camp at Kirkwood High School.  Kids from age 7 to 16 enjoyed 3 days of instruction and play on Kirkwood’s new turf field.  Maclin and other NFL players coach the kids throughout the day as well as taking time to talk and interact with them.  Each morning the day starts out with a positive message from one of the NFL players encouraging the kids to work hard, stay in school, respect their parents and teachers, and listen to their coaches.  The camp is a great event for the community with around 200 boys participating.  Due to local business sponsorships, 80% of the kids are able to participate in the camp on scholarship, which is Maclin’s way of giving something back.

Visit our Facebook page to see some photos from the camp!

Besides Maclin, NFL players helping out on the field included: Mike McNeill, Danario Alexander, Sean Weatherspoon, and LaMark Brown.

Raising Funds for the Haiti Orphan Project (HOPE)

Friday, June 15th, 2012 by Administrator

We had a wonderful evening Thursday, June 14, 2012 at the Downtown Kirkwood Concert Series raising money for the Haiti Orphan Project (HOPE).  Along with providing the best medical professional liability insurance coverage around, The Keane Insurance Group employees have a passion for helping and visiting orphans in Haiti.  One of our annual fund raising events is a concert that we sponsor in our community.  This year’s event was a huge success, and everyone loved the music played by the band, Fair Warning.  We offered food and beverages, popcorn, cotton candy, and face painting for free!  Many employees and their families volunteered to serve during the concert while enjoying a warm summer night in St. Louis.  Hundreds of people from surrounding communities showed up with chairs, coolers, and generous donations.  We were so pleased with the response from the crowd that we can’t wait for next year!

With the funds raised, HOPE has already started building an orphanage that is currently housing over 25 children.  A school and a medical clinic are also on the way with plans to take physicians and nurses to care for needs of the residents and the community.  If you would like to learn more, please visit the HOPE website: www.haitiorphanproject.org.  You can also find them on Facebook.

Help Us Help Others

Thursday, May 17th, 2012 by Administrator

Join us June 4th at Westborough Country Club in Kirkwood for the 4th Annual KeaneyShack Golf Tournament to benefit the Haiti Orphan Project (HOPE), the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and the James E. Hofer Scholarship for members of the MGMA of Greater St. Louis. Our past events have raised over $10,000 each year for these important causes.

The Keane Insurance Group established The Keane Charitable Group in 2009 in an effort to make a difference in the world by supporting charities close to our hearts.  Shortly after our foundation’s formation, one of the most devastating earthquakes in history hit Haiti in January 2010, leaving millions of people in need of emergency aid.  Due to the death toll and the number of demolished homes, one of the biggest problems after the earth quake was the increasing number of orphans.  In a country where there were already hundreds of thousands of orphaned and abandoned children, the disaster immediately intensified the issue.  A few months after the earth quake our president, John Keane, felt he needed to get involved to try to do something to help somehow.

After his first visit to Haiti in coordination with an organization that one of our brokers had been involved in even before the earth quake, John was determined to do everything he could to help the most helpless victims: Children.  Specifically orphaned and abandoned children.  John immediately contributed his own funds to serve the needs of the orphaned children by starting the Haiti Orphan Project (HOPE).  In the two years since that time, HOPE has begun building an orphanage “village” with the vision of including housing, clean water, a school building, and a medical clinic.  All of the materials are purchased in Haiti and the labor is provided by Haitian workers, which will help boost the economy there and give people steady work.  Furthermore, these villages will establish micro-business enterprises to provide sustainable jobs and income for the “village.” Most importantly, there are already 24 children living in the first village who had no home before this village was established.

A portion of funds for HOPE comes from The Keane Insurance Group profits.  In addition, many individuals, foundations and companies have contributed to make the orphan village a reality and to help with the ongoing cost to care for the orphans.

The Keane Group not only helps raise money throughout the year for HOPE, we have also sent employees to visit the orphans and staff.  These visits provide great exposure to the sometimes harsh realities of life in Haiti.  But they also provide incredible times of encouragement to the children and the caring staff of the orphan village.  So far, 24 different Keane Group employees, five spouses of employees and seven children of employees have made a trip to Haiti.

Would you please consider joining The Keane Group in our effort to help innocent children in Haiti?  You can help out by donating to or participating in this year’s KeaneyShack golf outing, which promises to be another exciting day of fun with delicious food & beverages, CaddyShack Trivia, and incredible giveaways and prizes on an excellent course in Kirkwood.  Sign up today so you don’t miss out!  Contact Monte Shields or click this link for registration information:

2011 KeaneyShack Golf Tournament

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011 by Nathan

Yesterday, (Monday, August 22, 2011) the Keane Insurance Group hosted the KeaneyShack golf tournament. This was our third year. KeaneyShack is an annual event that is put on every August at the Country Club at the Legends. The tournament is a charity event that raises money for The Haiti Orphan Project, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the James E. Hofer Scholarship Fund.

The golfers arrived at around 11:00 to register, then were encouraged to buy 50/50 raffle tickets. Each golfer had the opportunity to buy as many mulligans they wanted for more chances on the “hole-in-one”, “closest to the pin”, or the “longest drive” holes. Sue Tenney was very successful in selling so many! Meanwhile, the Keane volunteers were hustling and bustling, going to their positions at their respective holes, getting coolers out to the holes, and other last minute details. The last two years, we had many problems with the golf carts. They would run out of battery halfway through the event and our volunteers would get stuck out on the course, and have to push the carts back, and other horrible things like that! So THIS year, we asked for a couple of high powered golf carts for the administrative volunteers, so that we could have at least one that would last us the whole day, but after fifteen minutes of driving it, it keeled over and died. Unfixable. After this minor speed bump, there were only a few other mishaps. A few normal golf carts died, but they had replacements.

At around 12:30 the golfers started teeing off. Many of the guys who came out had only golfed a few times before, some had golfed a good bit, but were still incredibly terrible, and many were fairly good golfers! However, no matter what the skill level, every foursome had a ton of fun because they got to play their best ball each time. That took some pressure off and put some fun on! The weather was a bit overcast, which was better than a 100+ degree day, because everyone was outside all afternoon! It was a fairly comfortable 85 degrees and the rain stayed away! It was a little warm, so the incredibly large quantities of beer, water, beer, soda, and beer were greatly appreciated by all! Oh, and the vodka-red bull stand was a huge hit, as usual.

Each volunteer had a couple of Caddy Shack trivia questions that they asked each foursome. The foursome who answered the most correct by the end of the day, won $50 gift certificates to Llywelyn’s Pub. After the game, the golfers enjoyed a fajita station and open bar. Kris Perkins spearheaded the awards ceremony.  The team from Thomas Industrial Coatings won first prize which was a new Cleveland hybrid club for each golfer.

During and after dinner, the golfers had the opportunity to bid at the silent auction. Some things in the auction included a signed Tom Brady football jersey, a signed Sam Bradford football, and a signed Jeremy Maclin jersey along with some other really cool sports items. From what we heard, every single person had a great time, and better yet, we raised a sizable amount of money for these amazing charities.
