115th Missouri Osteopathic Annual Convention

Wednesday, May 8th, 2013 by Administrator

Mark Steere and John Kortum travelled to the Lodge of the Four Seasons in the Lake of the Ozraks for the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) Annual Convention April 25th and 26th.   The Keane Insurance Group exhibited along with other vendors and business partners.  Mark and John manned the booth and were able to visit with doctors from all over Missouri and beyond.  MAOPS members enjoyed some educational opportunities and relaxation at the resort.  They were able to visit with friends and clients and to provide information on medical malpractice insurance products.  With the many changes in the medical malpractice insurance market in Missouri, there a lot of physicians interested in our information.

We always enjoy getting out to these events and look forward to next year!  Thanks to the MAOPS staff for another successful conference.

Keane Insurance Group Exhibits at Missouri MGMA Meeting

Wednesday, May 8th, 2013 by Administrator

A group of our brokers attended the MO MGMA’s annual conference this week at Tan-Tar-A Resort in the Lake of the Ozarks.  Approximately 200 MGMA members from across the state of Missouri enjoyed a few days of educational sessions, networking, and time to relax with friends and associates.  As always the speakers were excellent, and the food and entertainment helped to make this year’s meeting a wonderful success.

Along with 60 other vendors and MGMA business partners, we had a booth in the exhibit hall and had a chance to visit with clients and friends practices all over the state.  This is always a rewarding time for us to catch up folks we only see once or twice a year.   We appreciate the members’ enthusiasm and the MGMA’s focus on making sure all the vendors have a chance to talk to the attendees.

The conference is also a great time for us to network with other business partners and some of our insurance carriers.  Some of the medical malpractice insurance companies in attendance at the MO MGMA this year included, Medicus, The Doctors Company, ProAssurance, PPIA, MGIS, and PSIC.  We are proud to partner with all of these professional liability carriers and enjoyed spending some time with them as well.

All those that helped plan the event deserve a big thank you, and, as always, we look forward to next year’s conference.

Missouri Physicians Rally at State Capitol in Support of Malpractice Reform

Wednesday, May 1st, 2013 by Administrator

The Keane Group travelled to Jefferson City to show our support of House Bill 112, on Tuesday, April 30th.  Physicians and others gathered at the Capitol for a Tort Reform Rally and to hear State Representatives, including the Speaker of the House, Tim Jones, speak on this important bill.  Doctors wearing their white coats then went door-to-door to let legislators know that this bill is significant for the future of healthcare in our state.  The bill was passed in the House and now moves on to the Senate where it was being debated on in the afternoon session.  We have photos of the event on the Keane Group Facebook page.

Physicians in Missouri Urged to Attend Tort Reform Rally

Monday, April 15th, 2013 by Administrator

You may have heard that a bill reinstating caps on medical malpractice suits in Missouri is moving through the legislative process.  To show our support of House Bill 112, The Keane Insurance Group is chartering a bus to the Tort Reform Rally in Jefferson City on April 30th.  Physician visibility at the Capitol is extremely important.  Get involved and let your legislators know that this bill is significant for the future of healthcare in our state!  All administrators and physicians are welcome to join us for the trip.

The bus will leave the Keane Group parking lot (135 W. Adams Ave, Kirkwood, MO 63122) at 7:30 a.m.  We plan on heading home at 2:00 p.m. with a stop for ice cream at Central Dairy, and should return to Kirkwood around 4:00 p.m.  To reserve a spot on the bus, please send an email to: Jane.Hamilton@keanegroup.com by Thursday, April 18th.  Or call Jane at 314-966-7733.  Space is limited so let us know as soon as possible!

Missouri Physicians to Rally in Support of Tort Reform

Thursday, April 11th, 2013 by Administrator

The Missouri Tort Reform Coalition, made up of physicians and other groups concerned about healthcare availability, is urging physicians to join them at the state capitol in lobbying Senators and Representatives in support of House Bill 112.  The bill would reinstate reasonable caps on non-economic damages in medical malpractice suits.  The Coalition believes that when lawmakers see that doctors are united in support of the bill it will have a better chance of passing.  The Tort Reform Rally is scheduled for Tuesday, April 30th, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Physicians and others interested should meet at 10:00 a.m. in the 3rd floor rotunda at the capitol building.

View a brief video describing the urgnency of the pending crisis in Missouri here.

To learn more about the Coalition and its efforts, visit the website here.  The website has helpful information about the organization and how to get more involved.  It includes a page that will identify an individual’s Senator based on home address so physicians can contact them by phone or letter.

The Keane Group is supportive of tort reform in Missouri because it will have a stabilizing affect on our state’s healthcare system.  After the limitations were put in place in 2005, we saw more medical malpractice insurance companies willing to offer coverage in Missouri.  Physicians in some specialties, such as OB/GYN and Neurosurgery, that were leaving Missouri for other states or closing practices altogether, were able to practice with reasonable, affordable insurance rates.  More physicians practicing means better access to quality care for the citizens of Missouri.

Keane Sponsors Jeremy Maclin Football Camp

Friday, July 13th, 2012 by Administrator

We are proud to help sponsor of the 2nd Annual Jeremy Maclin Football Camp at Kirkwood High School.  Kids from age 7 to 16 enjoyed 3 days of instruction and play on Kirkwood’s new turf field.  Maclin and other NFL players coach the kids throughout the day as well as taking time to talk and interact with them.  Each morning the day starts out with a positive message from one of the NFL players encouraging the kids to work hard, stay in school, respect their parents and teachers, and listen to their coaches.  The camp is a great event for the community with around 200 boys participating.  Due to local business sponsorships, 80% of the kids are able to participate in the camp on scholarship, which is Maclin’s way of giving something back.

Visit our Facebook page to see some photos from the camp!

Besides Maclin, NFL players helping out on the field included: Mike McNeill, Danario Alexander, Sean Weatherspoon, and LaMark Brown.

Raising Funds for the Haiti Orphan Project (HOPE)

Friday, June 15th, 2012 by Administrator

We had a wonderful evening Thursday, June 14, 2012 at the Downtown Kirkwood Concert Series raising money for the Haiti Orphan Project (HOPE).  Along with providing the best medical professional liability insurance coverage around, The Keane Insurance Group employees have a passion for helping and visiting orphans in Haiti.  One of our annual fund raising events is a concert that we sponsor in our community.  This year’s event was a huge success, and everyone loved the music played by the band, Fair Warning.  We offered food and beverages, popcorn, cotton candy, and face painting for free!  Many employees and their families volunteered to serve during the concert while enjoying a warm summer night in St. Louis.  Hundreds of people from surrounding communities showed up with chairs, coolers, and generous donations.  We were so pleased with the response from the crowd that we can’t wait for next year!

With the funds raised, HOPE has already started building an orphanage that is currently housing over 25 children.  A school and a medical clinic are also on the way with plans to take physicians and nurses to care for needs of the residents and the community.  If you would like to learn more, please visit the HOPE website: www.haitiorphanproject.org.  You can also find them on Facebook.

Help Us Help Others

Thursday, May 17th, 2012 by Administrator

Join us June 4th at Westborough Country Club in Kirkwood for the 4th Annual KeaneyShack Golf Tournament to benefit the Haiti Orphan Project (HOPE), the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and the James E. Hofer Scholarship for members of the MGMA of Greater St. Louis. Our past events have raised over $10,000 each year for these important causes.

The Keane Insurance Group established The Keane Charitable Group in 2009 in an effort to make a difference in the world by supporting charities close to our hearts.  Shortly after our foundation’s formation, one of the most devastating earthquakes in history hit Haiti in January 2010, leaving millions of people in need of emergency aid.  Due to the death toll and the number of demolished homes, one of the biggest problems after the earth quake was the increasing number of orphans.  In a country where there were already hundreds of thousands of orphaned and abandoned children, the disaster immediately intensified the issue.  A few months after the earth quake our president, John Keane, felt he needed to get involved to try to do something to help somehow.

After his first visit to Haiti in coordination with an organization that one of our brokers had been involved in even before the earth quake, John was determined to do everything he could to help the most helpless victims: Children.  Specifically orphaned and abandoned children.  John immediately contributed his own funds to serve the needs of the orphaned children by starting the Haiti Orphan Project (HOPE).  In the two years since that time, HOPE has begun building an orphanage “village” with the vision of including housing, clean water, a school building, and a medical clinic.  All of the materials are purchased in Haiti and the labor is provided by Haitian workers, which will help boost the economy there and give people steady work.  Furthermore, these villages will establish micro-business enterprises to provide sustainable jobs and income for the “village.” Most importantly, there are already 24 children living in the first village who had no home before this village was established.

A portion of funds for HOPE comes from The Keane Insurance Group profits.  In addition, many individuals, foundations and companies have contributed to make the orphan village a reality and to help with the ongoing cost to care for the orphans.

The Keane Group not only helps raise money throughout the year for HOPE, we have also sent employees to visit the orphans and staff.  These visits provide great exposure to the sometimes harsh realities of life in Haiti.  But they also provide incredible times of encouragement to the children and the caring staff of the orphan village.  So far, 24 different Keane Group employees, five spouses of employees and seven children of employees have made a trip to Haiti.

Would you please consider joining The Keane Group in our effort to help innocent children in Haiti?  You can help out by donating to or participating in this year’s KeaneyShack golf outing, which promises to be another exciting day of fun with delicious food & beverages, CaddyShack Trivia, and incredible giveaways and prizes on an excellent course in Kirkwood.  Sign up today so you don’t miss out!  Contact Monte Shields or click this link for registration information:
